288 east hastings street

Client: Wall Financial and BC Housing

Endall Elliot Associates, Vancouver, BC

288 East Hastings is a unique project that encompassed a couple of challenges. First, was working on a tenuous time with public engagement, as the project was seen as the beginning of gentrifying the prominent area of a large homeless population and Chinatown. As such, attention was put into the look of the building - the materials and elevations were designed to mimic the character of the existing brick buildings. Second, BC Housing affordable apartments and market sold apartment units were to be developed above the commercial space. Security and safety through the isolation between all users were paramount to the success of the building.
